Ruggles puts strangers in the same room. That only works while everyone can assume the person opposite is who they say they are and will behave like it. These are the six things that end an account.

Be who you said you were

Your name and photo should be yours. Using somebody else’s, or a name you picked to catch a particular person out, is the fastest way off here. A display name that isn’t your legal name is fine and supported, that’s different.

No harassment

Nobody has to talk to you. If somebody stops replying, that’s the answer. Making a second account to reach a person who blocked you is treated the same as the original behaviour, and worse.

No spam or selling

Tags exist so people can find each other, not so you can find a customer list. Mass connection requests, promotion in group chats and anything asking for money are all removable.

Nothing sexual, nothing violent

Not in photos, not in your tags, not in messages to somebody who did not ask. This is a campus directory and it stays readable in public.

The Northeastern address is the whole basis of trust. Signing up on somebody else’s, or keeping an account you got through one, ends it.

Turn up or say you can’t

Saying no to a meetup is free, always, and nobody is told. Saying yes and not appearing costs other people their evening. Do it repeatedly and your yes stops counting toward whether a plan goes ahead.

What happens

Most of it is one person reading a report. Depending on what it is, the account gets a warning, loses the post, or is removed. Anything involving somebody’s safety skips the middle step.

You’re never told who reported you, and the person who reported you is never told what happened to your account. Both of those are on purpose: reporting has to be safe to do.

If somebody is in danger

Northeastern University Police is 617 373 3333 and emergency services are 911. This app isn’t the right tool and will always be slower.
